Hey, guess what happened in Westminster? A gas leak shut down a road there. Repairs will take all weekend to fix things.

They evacuated about 150 people from buildings nearby. This was to keep everyone safe. The gas leak is on Great Peter Street, at the corner of St Ann’s Street.

Cadent, the gas people, came Thursday night and worked all night to find the leak’s source. Six places were evacuated Friday morning for safety. The leak came from a big pipe, 36 inches wide.

It is buried deep, about three meters down, and fixing it will take a long time. Great Peter Street is closed for repairs from Monck Street to Marsham Street.

They made detours for walkers and cars, and want to reopen the road fast. Gas supplies are not affected. They want people back home Friday night, yet the repairs will continue.

The fire brigade came Friday around 9 AM and helped evacuate the 150 people. A 25-meter safety zone is in place. The gas company is finding and stopping the leak.

Firefighters are still there, making sure it’s safe. Two fire trucks are helping out.
