Cornwall Council’s £1m investment in a St Austell pub has sparked outrage as plans for homeless accommodation fall through, leaving the building empty and problematic.
Local MP Noah Law is calling it a “white elephant.” He says the building is now empty and attracting antisocial behavior. It’s a real eyesore, and he believes it’s worth much less than what the council paid.
Law is frustrated. He points out that the council wasted money and created more problems for the police. He’s worried about the potential for more facilities for drug and alcohol users in the area.
He wants to revitalize St Austell’s town center, not add to its issues. Law agrees with the local council that this building isn’t suitable for housing the homeless. He’s also concerned about how it fell into disrepair.
Law has launched a survey to gather public opinions on what to do with the building. He’s considering three options: demolishing it for safety, turning it into flats for local families, or creating a community hub for young people.
He’s inviting everyone to share their ideas. Law believes it’s time for the council to take responsibility and find a solution. The public deserves a say in this matter.
