Urgent Call for Safety Changes at Cornwall’s Most Dangerous Junction

Cornwall: There’s a big push for safety changes at Plusha junction. This spot has seen six tragic deaths in just five years. Three of those happened this year alone.

A council meeting is set for January 21. They’ll discuss upgrading the junction on the A30. The goal is to revisit plans from 2015 for a safer design. This could help secure funding from the Department for Transport.

From 1999 to 2022, there were two fatal accidents here. But since then, the numbers have spiked. Serious accidents have jumped from 10.3% to nearly 50% of all incidents.

In November, MP Ben Maguire said “enough is enough.” After a recent fatal crash, they’ve put up cones and a new speed limit. Now, right turns from the B3257 to the A30 are restricted.

Adrian Parsons, a local councillor, is leading the charge for these changes. He’s got support from other councillors, including some from different parties.

The motion highlights the high accident rate at Plusha. It argues that a grade-separated junction could save lives and improve local access. Plus, it could bring economic benefits to the area.

Cornwall Council has funded similar projects before. They want to ensure Cornwall has a safe road network ready for when funds become available.
