A teenager led police on an 18-mile chase after stealing a car, causing significant damage before being caught in Cornwall
Helston: So, there was this wild car chase in Cornwall. A teen named Edward Jefferson-Coode and his buddy decided to steal a car from a garage. They took a Toyota Aygo and went for a joyride.
They broke into the garage early one morning. It was a bit of a mess, with windows smashed and car keys snatched. They drove off, and an employee spotted them right away.
Police were alerted, and a chase began. They sped through town, going way over the speed limit. At one point, they were driving 60 in a 40 zone. Crazy, right?
Things got even wilder when they blew a tire but kept going. They were all over the road, causing some serious damage. Eventually, the police caught up with them.
Jefferson-Coode tried to run but was caught soon after. The car they stole was wrecked, costing about £17,500 in damages. Plus, they had stolen keys and broken windows to deal with.
In court, Jefferson-Coode admitted to his part in the mess. He was 18 at the time and had no prior record. His lawyer said he was a good kid who just made a bad choice.
He’s been dealing with some personal issues and is now trying to turn his life around with an apprenticeship. The judge warned him to stay out of trouble or face serious consequences.
In the end, he got an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. He also has to do some rehabilitation and can’t drive for a year. The judge made it clear: he’s lucky this didn’t end worse.
