Council tax may rise 5%; garden waste collection will cost £59/year; new car park fees proposed.
Council tax may increase by five percent. Band D households would pay £100 more yearly. Garden waste collection might cost £59 per year. The council expects an extra £2 million from this.
Some free car parks might start charging fees. These changes were in last year’s budget. Social housing rents also face an increase. The maximum increase could be £16 monthly.
Jilly Julian discussed the town hall’s budget. She wants to avoid needing emergency funds. Many other authorities currently face that issue.
Julian explained the problem simply. Funding does not meet the pressures they face. This is the 16th year of insufficient funding. They must protect vulnerable residents, and they also need to deliver social care. Universal services rely on proper funding.
The council will vote on these proposals. The town hall meeting is on February 27.
