Speed cameras on the A435 in Warwickshire have been inactive for over two years, raising concerns about road safety and delays in activation.
Warwickshire: The speed cameras on the A435 between Studley and Alcester have been sitting idle for over two years. They were installed in late 2022, but they still aren’t operational.
The council had high hopes for these cameras. They believed they would help improve safety on a busy route that many drivers use to avoid the M42 and M5 traffic. A council spokesperson mentioned that the cameras are still in the final testing phase.
There are four sets of cameras, each with different speed limits. While the council promises they will be up and running soon, they haven’t given a specific timeline.
One spokesperson explained that the delay is due to the National Grid needing to set up the power supply. They admitted there have been issues but couldn’t provide exact activation dates. The last of the cameras might not be ready until late 2024.
They also noted that getting access to the land and managing traffic along the A435 was a tricky job. They’ve been working closely with Warwickshire County Council to get everything done safely and quickly. They appreciate the council’s patience during this process.
