Locals object to 5,000 solar panels near a busy A30 roundabout in Cornwall. Councils and residents cite worries about flooding & wildlife.
Locals and councils don’t seem happy about it. Residents have voiced concerns about this solar farm idea. Cornwall Council will discuss it at a special meeting.
S2W Property wants to build it, covering 3.75 hectares near Hayle. The farm would have batteries, access roads, and landscaping. It’s north of the Loggans Moor Roundabout, also close to a Lidl store.
The planning team suggests approval. But a local councillor, Lionel Pascoe, disagrees and shares the concerns of Hayle Town Council about flooding problems.
They want to install a 2.5MW solar farm that would connect to St Ives Bay Holiday Park. The park would get renewable energy, with this setup lasting for 40 years.
St Erth Parish Council also objects, preferring solar panels on rooftops or old industrial sites. This new site is beside a special nature area. They fear harm to local wildlife, as it’s also in a floodplain.
Residents also worry about lost wildlife habitat. Natural England thinks the project could hurt the nature area. They want a plan to lessen any damage.
Flood authorities changed their minds and now want rules for managing water runoff. Highway officials also dropped their objection after improved visibility at the site entrance.
Next week, they will also discuss another, larger solar farm, at about 200 acres. It is located near Gwinear.
