Samantha Tangye, 56, died from alcohol. She hid her drinking problem from family. She was found at a farm near Helston on March 26, 2024.
An inquest in Truro on Tuesday, February 4, revealed she died from alcohol. The family was unaware of her addiction. Samantha was 56.
Samantha was active and healthy, eating well and walking often; she was a mother of three sons. One son described her as an amazing mom.
Her landlord found her at the farm near Helston after she missed work. Her family began to worry when she also missed a meeting.
Her oldest son stated that she loved the environment and outdoors, was a great mother, and enjoyed ancient sites. She also enjoyed metal detecting on weekends with family.
He noted she missed the Sunday before her death, adding that she occasionally drank but was not an alcoholic. Her partner, Jason Bunt, also spoke.
Jason stated he had never seen her drink alcohol during their years together, emphasizing their love and plans for marriage. She worked multiple cleaning jobs.
After her death, he discovered that her ex-husband knew of her addiction, which she had hidden well. He was shocked, never suspecting a thing.
She had no prior medical history or known involvement with addiction services. Police found empty bottles in her caravan, concealed in a black bin bag. She had a fatal alcohol level.
Coroner Emma Hillson recorded an alcohol-related death and extended her respects to the family. Cornwall’s Drug and Alcohol Team then offered advice.
The team recommended contacting the charity, With You, for drug or alcohol help, including support for affected family members. With You provides confidential, free, and non-judgmental support to young people and adults dealing with drug, alcohol, or mental health issues across Cornwall.
