Drivers in Cornwall were puzzled by mixed speed limit signs during roadworks
The work started on January 13, costing around £25 million. The eastbound lane will be closed on weeknights from 8 PM to 6 AM until the end of February. Traffic is being rerouted from Carkeel roundabout through the B3271 and North Road.
To keep everyone safe, the speed limit dropped from 50 mph to 30 mph. But here’s the kicker: drivers saw signs for 30 mph, 40 mph, and 50 mph all in one spot. Talk about a mix-up!
Naturally, this left folks wondering which limit to follow. They were also concerned about getting fined by the new speed cameras. Thankfully, National Highways cleared things up, confirming the limit is indeed 30 mph.
They also mentioned that no fines would be handed out during the initial confusion. Now, drivers need to stick to the clearly marked 30 mph limit.
Julian Mitchell, the tunnel manager, explained that they’re updating technology around the tunnel. The 30 mph limit helps keep both lanes open while work is ongoing. He acknowledged the earlier signs caused confusion but assured everyone that the speed limit is now clearly posted.
