Paul Finch, 55, was discovered deceased at his Truro home after his sister’s concern. An inquest revealed struggles with alcohol and health issues.
Truro: Paul Finch, a 55-year-old man, was found dead at home. His sister, Angela, hadn’t heard from him for days and went to check on him.
During the inquest, Angela shared that Paul had been missing for about eight or nine days. When she arrived, she discovered he had passed away.
Unfortunately, Paul was already decomposing, so the cause of death couldn’t be determined. A toxicology report showed alcohol levels that were concerning but not fatal.
No illegal drugs were found, and the prescribed medications were not confirmed as the cause of death. Angela described Paul as a kind and cheerful person despite his struggles.
Paul was born in Essex and later moved to Cornwall. He enjoyed sports and was part of various teams during his school years.
He faced serious health issues, including a brain injury from a motorbike accident and a subdural hematoma in 2016, which led to epilepsy.
In 2012, his family raised concerns about his alcohol use, and he had some involvement with mental health services.
Cornwall’s Drug and Alcohol Team recommends contacting the charity With You for support with alcohol and drug issues.

In 2021, Paul sought help for his alcohol use and memory issues. He had periods of sobriety but often returned to heavy drinking.
Concerns about Paul’s well-being were reported to adult social care, but it was believed his family and With You were providing adequate support.
The coroner concluded that Paul’s cause of death was unascertained. The alcohol levels were not excessive, and the prescribed drugs were not confirmed as harmful.
It remains unclear if Paul took his medication improperly or experienced a medical episode due to his epilepsy.
