Leamington: A couple, Olivia and Ricky Newcombe, faced a nightmare when their three-day-old baby, Lenny, stopped breathing. They had just taken a Mini First Aid class, hoping they’d never need it. But that night, they had to put their training to the test.

Olivia, recovering from a C-section, woke up to find Lenny unresponsive. Ricky jumped into action, performing CPR for six and a half long minutes. Just as paramedics arrived, Lenny finally took a breath.

Olivia described the moment as terrifying. She felt helpless, while Ricky went into “fight mode.” They had waited so long for their little miracle, and the thought of losing him was unbearable.

Now, Olivia is sharing their story to encourage other parents to learn CPR. She believes everyone should be prepared for emergencies, no matter how unlikely they seem.

The couple thought they’d only need their skills when Lenny was older. But just three days in, they had to act fast. Olivia found the hands-on training invaluable, especially understanding how much pressure to apply during CPR.

As a primary school teacher, she had some first aid experience, but this training was different. They are grateful every day that they could save their son’s life, thanks to what they learned.
