GAIL’s is now open in Prestwich! The bakery is already popular, serving treats & coffee to a packed crowd.
The bakery replaced a former NatWest bank, marking GAIL’s first location in north Manchester. Some initially worried it would negatively impact local shops, especially after an earlier mistake concerning the town’s name.
Now, with the new year comes GAIL’s presence, and people are quickly buying up treats. Croissants, cakes, salads, and coffee are especially popular. One cafe worker mentioned being surprised by the crowd size, joking to a customer that they almost ran out of food.
GAIL’s is well-known for its baked goods. The new bakery, with its light and airy atmosphere, maintains the high ceilings of the former bank. The design also subtly references local history, incorporating steel, poles, and task lights.
“I think it looks brilliant,” said a local woman as she waited to order treats for herself and her mother. “I love what they’ve done.” She expressed hope that the bakery’s opening would be convenient and would attract more people to the area, benefitting nearby shops.
GAIL’s offers many familiar items, including cinnamon buns and sausage rolls. Lunch options include focaccia sandwiches and salads, with the chicken tarragon pie catching the eye. Sweet options abound, from flourless chocolate cakes to salted caramel cake. Alongside these treats, they also serve a variety of coffee, tea, and juices.
The cafe also sells items to take home, such as cakes, biscuits, and jams. For those looking for specific ingredients, honey and coffee are also available for purchase.
GAIL’s began its journey in London in the 1990s. Today, it boasts over 140 locations throughout the UK, including in the city center and Altrincham.
Whether GAIL’s will thrive in Prestwich remains to be seen. However, initial signs indicate strong community support. The bakery is located at 463 Bury New Road.
