A former doctor at George Eliot Hospital has been struck off after a child sex abuse conviction. He had indecent images and was involved in sharing abusive content.
He had 52 indecent images and videos of children on his phone. Police found these in October 2021, just eight days after he started working at the hospital.
Out of the 52 images, 28 were the most severe category. It was revealed that he accessed this content while on duty. He also used Telegram to share indecent pictures and discuss horrific crimes against children.
The tribunal found that the young victims were as young as two months old. Some showed clear signs of distress. The tribunal decided that his actions were so terrible that he could not be allowed to practice medicine again.
Maxamed, who lived in Aylestone, Leicester, was also found with cocaine during a police search. He had shown up to work under the influence of drugs, although it was unclear how often this happened.
In March last year, he received a 10-month suspended prison sentence and was ordered to do 140 hours of unpaid work. He was also placed on the sexual offenders register for ten years.
Initially, he denied the charges but later changed his plea. The tribunal met last month and decided to strike him off the Medical Practitioner Register immediately.
Before his arrest, he had only worked at the hospital for eight days. His contract was terminated even before his sentencing.
Maxamed was not present at the tribunal but can appeal the decision within 28 days. If he appeals, his suspension will remain until a final decision is made.
