Police found a gun early today at Dukes Drive in Monton, Eccles. Officers searched near a local beauty spot and discovered the weapon under a tree.

Detectives arrived at 7:30 AM after a tip, and forensic officers also went to the scene. This find relates to a bigger investigation, as reported by The Manchester Evening News.

Dukes Drive is near the Bridgewater Canal in Monton’s center, providing access to a car park often used by walkers and cyclists. Woodlands and greenery surround the road, a popular spot for picnics and dog walking.

Cycle routes and paths connect to Roe Green, utilizing a former railway line. These routes also extend to Worsley and Little Hulton.

Greater Manchester Police stated they went to Dukes Drive land today, Friday, February 7, 2025, and found and secured a firearm. No one has been arrested so far, and initial police work suggests no wider threat exists. The police investigation is still underway.

A local dog walker saw many police cars parked near the car park and woods. Police allowed people to park and walk freely, while the search seemed focused near the car park and Folly Brook.

The police stood by bushes and trees leading down toward Folly Brook, a spot off the main path. Detectives wore suits with blue police vests, which were not high-visibility.

Dukes Drive is close to Monton village centre, just 300 yards away. The high street features many unique shops and several brunch spots, contributing to Monton’s desirability as a Salford suburb.
