Truro: Last night, a fire broke out at Old County Hall. Fire crews rushed to the scene around 9 PM. They found smoke billowing from the building.

Firefighters quickly got to work. They used breathing gear and hoses to tackle the flames on the ground floor. Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service received a 999 call at 9:04 PM.

Two fire engines were sent from Truro and Tolvaddon. They confirmed smoke inside and called for backup. Another two engines joined the effort.

The firefighters worked hard to put out the fire. Old County Hall has been empty for years. It used to be the headquarters for Cornwall County Council from 1912 to 1966.

Despite efforts to sell it, the building remains derelict. A local hotelier bought it in 2012, hoping to turn it into a boutique hotel. But that plan never took off.

Now, it’s on the market for over £2.6 million. Last summer, it was listed for £3 million. There were plans to convert it into student housing, but nothing has happened yet.
