A Cornwall dog daycare shut down with no license, confusing customers. The owner cites issues and promises refunds, but the future is uncertain.
The daycare first said the council shut them down, then they took that back. They said they’d get another inspection and didn’t explain the closure’s reasons nor give a date to reopen.
The daycare boarded dogs for days or overnight, and owners want refunds for missed visits. The owner says he will refund them. Customers prepaid but cannot reach anyone; the landline is off, and the mobile doesn’t work.
Jordan Coombe co-owns Doggy Day Care and also owns the sister Natural Cornish Pet Shop. She said the closure was due to an urgent issue and apologized for problems, promising things would improve.
Social media said the closure was temporary and refunds were coming. However, the website said it was done doing business, while a notice on the door gave yet another statement announcing immediate closure with deep regret.
Doggy Day Care Cornwall lacks a doggy daycare license, which the owner plans to fix with the council. Cornwall Council confirmed they have no license for boarding. They would not say if the business ever had one, nor did the council hide reasons for the closure.
The daycare opened in 2014. Mr. Coombe said issues hurt the business, including staff, money, and communication. He also cited personal problems. The council used them as a case study before, but couldn’t license them for four years due to staff shortages. New staff gave them a two-star license due to inaccessible emails.
He says operating without a license was based on old advice from a former employee who no longer works for the council. The license was revoked due to dog numbers.
He says they’re a good daycare, but problems had a big impact. He is working with Cornwall Council to fix it. He says refund “panic” caused bank issues. He plans to refund money owed and asks for patience in reopening.
