Truro: A cyclist was left with serious injuries after a car hit her. The driver, Chantelle Hawkins, didn’t see her as she turned into the train station parking lot.

Witnesses said the cyclist was almost halfway across when the car turned. The cyclist tried to brake but couldn’t avoid the collision. She was thrown into the air and landed hard on the road.

After the accident, the cyclist felt intense pain in her arm. Initially, doctors thought she had severe bruising. But two days later, she returned to the hospital and found out she had a broken arm.

In June, doctors said her arm had healed, but she still struggled with movement. She couldn’t enjoy summer activities like swimming because of her limited range of motion.

Hawkins, who had no prior convictions, expressed regret at the scene. The judge noted that the cyclist was clearly visible and that the impact on her life was significant.

Hawkins received a suspended sentence of three months and was banned from driving for a year. She also has a curfew from 7 am to 7 pm.
