Penzance: The direct train from Penzance to Aberdeen is being cut. This route is the longest direct train journey in the UK, taking about 14 hours.

The change will happen in May. CrossCountry says it will create a better service for Penzance. They believe this will make day trips from Bristol easier.

With the new schedule, there will be two daily services from Penzance. One leaves at 11:15 AM and goes to Edinburgh. The other departs at 6:13 PM, arriving in Birmingham at 11:55 PM.

Additionally, there will be hourly trains from Plymouth to Scotland and northern England. These will leave every hour at 27 minutes past the hour.

The current service is popular and has 35 stops. It travels through beautiful areas like Cornwall, Devon, and the Midlands before reaching Scotland.

Tickets for the journey are pricey. First-class tickets cost £470.70, while standard tickets are £320.80 for walk-up singles. Advance tickets start at £134.10 for first-class and £65.70 for standard.

This direct service started on October 3, 1921, and originally took 22.5 hours. It involved multiple railway companies.

CrossCountry Trains has been asked for comments on this change.
