Coventry: A new corner shop in Coventry is set to sell alcohol, even though many locals are not happy about it. The Jai Sai Convenience Store got the green light to sell booze until 10pm, which is an hour earlier than they wanted.

The shop is located at 38 Redesdale Road, where a tax consultancy used to be. Residents were worried about noise and anti-social behavior in their quiet neighborhood. Over 50 people signed a petition against the shop, fearing it would disrupt their peaceful lives.

One concerned dad, Paul Williams, lives right next door. He said his child’s bedroom is just a meter away from the shop. He worried that late-night noise would disturb his child’s sleep. Another long-time resident, Frank Harrison, pointed out that the area already has parking issues and accidents at the busy junction near the shop.

Local councillor Jackie Gardiner mentioned that if the shop were applying for planning permission today, it would likely be turned down due to parking concerns. However, council officers recommended granting the license, believing the shop would follow the rules.

Mano Butani, representing the shop owner, assured everyone that there wouldn’t be extra noise or trouble. He agreed to close the shop at 10pm and promised to keep the area clean with extra litter bins and daily clean-ups. After some discussion, the council decided to approve the license, saying they understood the community’s worries but had to follow the rules.
