Cornwall: Plans are in motion for new developments in the area. The council is looking to build over 70 extra-care apartments for the elderly. They also want to add 60 static caravans at a holiday park. Plus, an old bank will be transformed into a library and visitor hub.

Every week, Cornwall Council reviews over 100 planning applications. They pick out interesting proposals for the public to see. Anyone can comment on these applications, whether they support or oppose them.

Most applications are decided by planning officers. However, some go to elected councillors for review. The exact dates for decisions on these proposals haven’t been set yet. You can check them out on the Cornwall Council planning portal.

Plans for Extra Care Apartments

In St Austell, there’s a proposal for 77 extra care apartments. This will be on 1.16 acres of council-owned land. The goal is to meet local housing needs and provide more care facilities.

The site is near the town center, just a 20-minute walk away. Currently, it has a few old buildings that are not in great shape.

More Static Caravans at Holiday Park

Haven Leisure Limited wants to add 60 static caravan pitches next to Riviere Sands Holiday Park in Hayle. This park already has 316 caravans and many fun amenities.

The company says there’s a strong demand for more caravans. They believe this expansion will help meet the needs of holidaymakers while being environmentally friendly.

Old Bank to Become Library and Visitor Hub

Launceston Town Council plans to turn the former Barclays Bank into a new library and visitor center. The current library is outdated and hard to access.

They secured £1.5 million from Cornwall Council to buy the bank building. The new library will have an open-plan design and include meeting rooms and offices.

Terraced House to Beach Hotel

In St Ives, there’s a proposal to convert a terraced house into a hotel. The house overlooks the beach and has been used as a holiday home.

The applicant believes this change will benefit the local economy, especially since St Ives attracts tourists year-round.
