Cornwall Council is reviewing exciting new plans, including a rum distillery in a former lifeboat station and various housing projects across the region
Every week, the council gets over 100 planning applications. They pick out the most intriguing ones for public review. Anyone can check these applications and share their thoughts, whether they’re for or against them.
Most applications are handled by planning officers. But some go to elected councillors for a decision. The timeline for these applications is still up in the air. You can find all the details on the Cornwall Council planning portal.
The lifeboat station in Looe is a Grade II listed building. The East Looe Town Trust wants to turn it into a distillery and bar for Penrock Distillery Ltd. They believe this will give the trust a reliable tenant instead of the random uses it has had lately.
The building is in a conservation area and a spot of great landscape value. It’s also in a coastal vulnerability zone, so they’ll need to tread carefully.
In Liskeard, there are plans to refurbish the Guildhall, which is also Grade II listed. The town council aims to revamp the interior while keeping its historical charm. They want to make it more accessible and functional for the community.
Near Bude, there’s a proposal for a small housing development. They’re looking to build three to five homes at Contractors Yard. The focus is on sustainable housing that meets local needs.
In Pool, near Redruth, Cornish Premier Homes Ltd wants to build eight affordable flats on a former college car park. Each flat will have its own entrance, ensuring privacy for residents.
There’s also a plan for affordable housing near Penzance, with up to six homes proposed. And in St Agnes, they’re looking at building up to five chalet-style bungalows.
Lastly, a pub and restaurant in Summercourt wants to become a wedding venue. The Tartan Fox, run by chef Adam Handling, is hoping to expand its offerings.
These projects show how Cornwall is evolving, balancing development with community needs. Keep an eye on these plans as they unfold!
