Residents and councillors are concerned about a proposed bar and bistro’s impact on a nearby hamlet in Cornwall
Truro: A holiday park wanted to open a bar and bistro in an old toilet block. But locals aren’t happy about it. They think it’ll disturb their peaceful hamlet.
Acorn Parks Ltd applied for this new venue at Meadow Lakes. The planning department thought it was a good idea. They said the site isn’t in a protected area and isn’t prone to flooding.
But local councillor Michael Bunney raised concerns. He felt it was too close to the hamlet of Luney Barton. He argued it would disrupt the quiet rural vibe.
Bunney said he didn’t mind a bar or bistro, just not in that spot. He worried about noise and visual impact on the area. The proposed venue would seat 25 inside and 24 outside.
Rob McGuinness from the local parish council echoed these worries. He said the location was inappropriate, especially so close to the historic hamlet.
He pointed out that the holiday park has been there for over 50 years. Acorn Parks bought it 15 years ago, and it now has various accommodations.
The managing director, Rachel Nation, insisted the bar would be low-key. She promised it would close at 10:30 PM, with a curfew for the park at 11 PM.
In the end, the council voted against the proposal. Seven councillors were in favor of refusal, while only one supported it. The locals can breathe a sigh of relief for now.
