A Cornwall hunt group refutes claims of illegal fox hunting caught on video, insisting they only engage in lawful trail hunting.
Cornwall: Recently, a hunt group in Cornwall found itself in hot water. A group called Kernow Sabs claims to have video evidence of the East Cornwall Hunt chasing a fox. They say the hounds even trespassed on land where hunting is banned.
The footage was recorded on January 4 at Bodmin Moor. It shows a rider from the hunt pursuing a fox. The hounds were also seen jumping a fence into restricted land owned by Forestry England.
Interestingly, the hunt insists they only participate in legal trail hunting. They argue that the video doesn’t prove any wrongdoing. The British Hound Sport Association backs them up, saying the footage shows a rider trying to guide the fox away from the hounds.
They also mentioned that hounds crossing boundaries isn’t unusual during trail hunting. The hunt claims they follow all the rules and that any allegations should be reported to the police for investigation.
On the same day, a rider from the hunt fell and got injured. The hunt spokesperson said they weren’t sure if this rider was part of their group. They praised the emergency services for their quick response.
Forestry England is aware of the incident but hasn’t seen any evidence of illegal activities. They’ve banned trail hunting on their land, and the Hunting Act 2004 prohibits hunting with dogs in England.
Despite the controversy, the hunt maintains they operate within the law. They’re open to any investigations into the claims made against them.
