Cllr Adrian Parsons, representing Altarnun and Stoke Climsland, is passionate about this issue. He’s been pushing for improvements for a long time. At a recent Cornwall Council meeting, he expressed his frustration over the lack of action.

He wants the council to revisit plans from 2015 for a safer junction. This would involve creating a grade-separated junction, which could help reduce accidents. Cllr Parsons believes it’s crucial to secure funding from the Department for Transport.

He pointed out that National Highways has acknowledged the junction’s dangerous history. The current setup just can’t handle the increasing traffic safely.

Back in 2000, experts suggested a bridge or underpass for £2 million. In 2015, plans were drawn up for £12 million, but nothing came of it. It’s frustrating to see so many missed opportunities.

Cllr Parsons shared some alarming statistics. As traffic has increased, so have serious accidents. He’s been in touch with paramedics, police, and locals affected by these tragedies. They all agree: something must change.

He challenged the council on the costs of a new junction, saying the figures don’t add up. His passionate speech received applause, but the motion will go to the Cabinet for future discussion.

From 1999 to 2022, Plusha saw two fatal accidents. But between 2023 and 2024, there were four more. Serious accidents have also spiked, raising concerns about safety.

In November, Lib Dem MP Ben Maguire said “enough is enough.” Following the latest fatal crash, National Highways has taken some steps to improve safety, like closing parts of the junction and lowering speed limits.

It’s clear that the community is rallying for change. Everyone hopes for a safer future at Plusha junction.
