Cornwall: Another 136 banks are closing, including three in Cornwall. The Lloyds on Broad Street in Launceston, Halifax on White River Place in St Austell, and Lloyds on Killigrew Street in Falmouth will shut down by the end of 2025.

In the last three years, 25 banks have closed in Cornwall. Falmouth alone lost four branches. These closures follow Lloyds’ recent announcement allowing customers to use any of its brands for in-person banking.

Lloyds explained that fewer customers are visiting branches, opting instead for mobile banking. All employees at the affected branches will be offered jobs at other locations.

A spokesperson mentioned that over 20 million customers now use their apps for easy access to funds. Customers can also use telephone banking or visit any branch of Lloyds, Halifax, or Bank of Scotland.

Additionally, everyday banking can be done at over 11,000 Post Office branches or Banking Hubs. Since February 2022, 1,784 bank branches have closed or announced closures, averaging about 50 per month.

This year, at least 289 branches are set to close, with more closures expected next year. The LINK initiative aims to support vulnerable customers and small businesses during this shift to cashless banking.
