Launceston: A bus caught fire on the A30 near the Cornwall-Devon border. First Bus confirmed it was not a school or college service. They wanted to clear up any confusion after the incident.

The fire happened over the weekend, damaging the road and causing a closure for repairs. The A30 was restricted to one lane for safety.

Concerns about bus safety have been rising due to recent fires. Last April, a double-decker bus caught fire on the A30 near Bodmin. That bus had just dropped off 50 children but had no passengers at the time of the fire.

The bus involved in the recent fire was on its way to Bath for a fleet upgrade. First Bus stated it was not used for school runs that day, and the driver was unharmed.

First Bus emphasized that safety is their top priority. They will conduct a full investigation into the fire’s cause. Their buses undergo regular inspections to ensure safety.

The RMT union has raised concerns about bus safety, asking for independent investigations into these incidents. They want reassurances that measures are in place to prevent future fires.
